During this season of wandering in the wilderness aka selling our house, I must confess that I often find myself saying some variation of “once the house sells, I will do/be/have etc. ” multiple times a day.
Yes, there are certain things that we won’t have to worry about that eminently will disappear once the house sells…like cleaning/picking up the house every day...or sometimes, multiple times a day. I will admit, the house looks smashing when it’s primped and primed for showings, but personally, I like to see little stamps of my Bean’s daily adventures around the house. We’re learning and making memories, and I might forget to tell my love about the funny face she made when she banged the measuring cup against the baking pan that made a loud noise which surprised her if I have to pack those away before he comes home.
I also won’t miss the daily dilemmas of “ok, you have 30 minutes left during nap time, do you prep the house in case of a last-minute showing OR do you make those appointments that you’ve been trying to make for 3 days OR do you take a shower…hmmm, when WAS the last time I took a shower?” <Oh, mom life!>
This wandering has been frustrating and filled with many irritations! After having an offer fall through last week, it felt like hope was just squished like a spider who finds its way in to my home. (Spiders everywhere be forewarned!) After a day of irritation and grieving over the loss of the excitement of being done with this phase, my love and I had a conversation about where we were and how we were feeling which cause me to have a change of heart.
Life doesn’t go the way that we plan it and we have a choice – We can sit and wish for the fantasy of the greenest, most lush, and cushy grass on the other side, or we can water and groom the patches of grass that are in our backyards. Living in limbo makes being content quite a challenge…but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. It just means it takes a little work to achieve a paradigm shift.
So my Monday challenge this week is just as much for me as it is for you – In the area(s) where you have been dreaming, wishing, hoping, lamenting about “the other side” or your “one day”, find a positive about where you are RIGHT NOW and dwell there…right in your own backyard…Who knows, you may just find some sunflowers growing amongst the weeds.
